In May of 2008, Dr. Stevens completed a five week course in animal chiropractic. She attended the Options for Animals College of Animal Chiropractic in Wellsville, Kansas. At Options, they bring the veterinary and chiropractic professions together for a common goal, and promote the highest standard of care in animal chiropractic by offering the best animal chiropractic education.

chiropracticWhat is Animal Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is an integral part of the holistic trend in animal health care. This therapy is designed to work with the inborn homeostasis of the animal. It belongs in the health care spectrum along with medicine and surgery. Chiropractic care does not pretend to encompass the entire study of health and disease, but does offer alternative therapy. Chiropractic philosophy is based on the intimate relationship of the spinal column to the nervous system and its role in biomechanics and movement. The purpose of chiropractic is to optimize health through the body’s inmate recuperative power. Its strength is in preventing injuries and increasing quality of life.

Dr. Stevens passed both written and practical exams after the five weeks of training at Options. She is also certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association. There are two veterinarians from South Dakota who have trained at Options for Animals. We believe the nearest animal chiropractor is at least 130 miles away.

Chiropractic’s strength is in its power to prevent illness and increase performance. Animals are athletes, especially horses and dogs. Working and agility dogs, ranch and performance horses are athletes (human athletes are adjusted regularly). Adjustments are also helpful after a particularly tough workout and after an injury. Chiropractic is a way to treat animals without drugs. Virtually all animals have subluxations of their spine. Correcting, or “adjusting” these make the animal more comfortable and able to move normally. So the answer is – All animals can benefit from chiropractic care.
